Ah. It's been so long since I read them. I guess I'll
have to again. My vague recollection is that I liked
the idea of individualism as presented in the
Fountainhead, and of the hero's doing his own thing,
as it were, but that in Atlas Shrugged the main
characters were too unconcerned about others and their
welfare--were too selfish and hurt others. All that
remains in my memory now is Gary Cooper from the
Fountainhead movie and trains and train magnates from
Atlas Shrugged. But it was 50+ years ago that I read
the books.
I copied this from the library's annotation:
"A new generation has discovered that Anthem, is more
socially relevant today that it was when it was
written sixty years ago.
"Anthem is the classic story about the consequences of
social collectivism and the importance of
individualism.
Anthem was first published in hardcover by Caxton
Press in 1953 and is now in its twelfth printing.
Anthem has been described as "one of the most
beautiful prose poems ever written."
It does sound interesting.
I wonder if my opinion of Rand's philosophy would be
different now that I'm 70 instead of 20. I do approve
of one's going one's own way and sticking up for what
one believes in and being individualistic as long as
other people are not hurt. smile

Actually, the philosophy expressed in the two books
is identical. The story
lines are different, but Ms. Rand is coming from the
same place.
There is a third book in this genre called "Anthem."
From what I've heard
it's supposed to wrap up this line of thinking.
