Hi Cindy,

I read braille too and do not space between them. So, don't know whether it
really matters or not! To me, they look better with no spaces, just my
personal preference! Also, when I see them in print books they have no
spaces!

Thanks, Lissi. I'll change my rows of 3 asterisks to three with spaces
between them mayrie had shown them with spaces but the next person to
post had said she did them without spaces. Your explanation, and knowing
Mayrie uses braille, makes me realize that for braille readers the spaces
between are desirable, It's too late for me to do anything about my earlier
books, but I suppose readers can change them (hopefully.

Dear Debbie, Valerie and Booksharian Friends,

Evan and I put spaces between three asterisks used to separate blocks of
text as when they are used to show time passage or the start of a new scene
or point of view character. In most print books the asterisks or bullets
used for this purpose are widely spaced. In all braille books, and according
to code, there are spaces between three braille asterisks. When listening to
a recorded book with punctuation turned on, it takes no more time for spaced
asterisks to be identified than if they are written without spaces.

The National Library Service trains and certifies braille transcribers, so
their implementation of code is reliable.

In print, since there are a gazillion fonts, it's possible for the three
asterisks in white spaces to be written without spaces, but they are spaced
in the vast majority of cases.

Clearly I feel on firm ground concerning asterisks.

To let you know I still have a lot to learn, I will share that I haven't
been able to figure out what to do with punctuation at the beginning or end
of italicized words, phrases or sentences. Cranked up as high as my CCTV can
get, I can't tell if punctuation is slanted. My vision is so distorted that
I often have trouble perceiving if the letters are slanted. Most punctuation
looks like crumbs to me and I never can tell if those crumbs are slanted.

Always with love,

Lissi

That is how I do them, too, Debby.

Hi everyone!

I have always put all three asterisks together without spaces between them.
Have I been doing it wrong?

oh. Thanks, Mayrie. you have a space between each of the three asterisks.
I've been putting 3 or (5, before) together With a space between each one,
they won't go by so fast.
