If I'm not mistaken, scansoft is included in both scanning packages, I
know that it is included in K1000, and when I use the optimize scan
feature, sometimes fine reader is the choice and sometimes scansoft.

Just as another note. Both Kurzweil and OpenBook have options for using
other recognition engines, Fine Reader is generally the default. Shelley
has written in the past about the different engines in Kurzweil, listing
pros and cons.
