There's a chance I can help you find your missing page breaks.
This week I began work on a novel by one of our very competent
submitters. I was shocked to find it didn't have page breaks. I
thought I'd insert them in Microsoft word 2003 by using control
with enter, but this only added another blank line. I was in the
process of e-mailing the submitter to ask if I released the book
back to page one she would examine it to see what was wrong. The
book was an RTF file so I reasoned it should have page breaks as
all of her books have had in the past.
Then, just in time before I sent the post, I remembered the trick
of alting to the menu, right arrowing to view and entering on
normal. I hopped to the file and in 3 keystrokes the page breaks were in place!
I don't understand why this works, but sometimes it's all that is
needed to make invisible page breaks appear. I was also able to
edit the file as usual and could add page breaks with control
enter, though now I didn't need to. I've validated 50 pages today,
reading as I go and enjoying the book hugely.
I'm about to shut my computer down for the night. I hope the best
case scenario transpires and that in the morning I read that your
page breaks were there all along as mine were.

Hi.
I am currently validating "assignment in eternity" by Robert Heinlein.
The book seems to have several small scanning errors (the comes
out as die, and, therefore, then comes out as dien). These are
small and infrequent, so I should be able to take care of them easily enough.
The problem is that the book has a running title at the top. Odd
numbered pages have the name of one of the stories followed by a page number.
The even numbered pages has a page number followed by "Robert a. Heinlein".
The book has no section breaks or page breaks.
I think the book has about 300 pages in it.
I have tried searching for text (either a story name, or the
author's name). I can find them okay in word, but I can't do a
global find and replace because I don't know how to get back to
the beginning of the line and insert a page break.
My question is, how would you handle this book? Am I doomed to
work on it for the rest of my existence as a sane individual? Am I
making a mountain out of a moll hill?
What do you say?
