Okay, I think I get it. You need credits so you can get books from other
people, not just get a lot of books for free while contributing nothing. The
'more detailed overview" made it clearer to me.

Thanks, Amber.

I checked out the link explaining how it works, and it sounds good. But they
don't really explain what's up with the credits. Why do I need them? If I
join, why do I get them? Do I need them to trade books? If so, why? What
happens if I don't get them?

Overall, it looks like they have a lot of books up there of all kinds.

    Hi all:
I am on another book group and a lot of the members are using
    http://www.paperbackswap.com
I thought it would be a good way to get rid of those books you don't want
anymore, and can get new ones. Just a thought.
