[bksvol-discuss] Re: a question about text book scanning

If I scanned it in and someone would be willing to proof it. I'd have no issue what so ever letting them borrow the book. :)

I would probably be interested in proofreading certain textbooks but only if I had a copy of the book available. Putting your textbooks on Bookshare is commendable but would you also be willing to loan your print copy to the proofreader? Most of these books are either not easily available or are too expensive for those doing proofreading to buy, and I am one of those proofreaders who is not willing to validate without having a print copy available. I'm in school right now, too, and I am doing the submitting of textbooks as
I go, or am planning to, anyway!

Candice,

Here is a message that was in one of the first
newsletters: If you're a student or teacher requesting
a book specifically needed for school, go to the front
of the line with mail to:
schoolbookrequest@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Bookshare may not be able to get them done quickly
enough for you, but maybe they can get the books from
the publishers. It's nice of you to scan them and then
submit them, and you'd probably better start, but
maybe you won't have to finish. smile

Hi, I've been a volentier for a bit, but kind of a
quiet one since the embarricement of scanning in
some of the Acorna's children's books by Anne
McCafrey. I had a question though, soon I'll be
getting the list of text books I'll need this
semester. Can someone give me some thoughts about
scanning text books with OCR for bookshare, should I
not do it that way? I will be scanning them for
myself, and figured that being nice and sharing
wouldn't hurt as long as it's decent quality.
