I use both, but for me what decides my preference is kurzweil's optimize feature.

Echoing Elizabeth's comments:

K1K makes validating a well done book a breeze.  Even if I were never to
scan anything, I'd consider K1K almostt indispensible.
Of course, I do scan and that makes K1k even more so.
The ranked spelling feature was one of the principal reasons I opted for
K1k last fall over Open Book.
