Hi Terra,
If you need some validation experience, and would like to
try a short book that has been prevalidated by the submitter, I
suggest the following:
First Meet (The Gymnasts #2)
Elizabeth Levy
I submitted this book, and can assure you that all pages are
present, all copyright information is present and legible, all
chapter headings and page numbers have been protected, and the book
has been read cover to cover, and proofread and scannos
corrected. All that you will need to do is varify that all I've
written above is the case. This book will give you a good idea, I
think, of what a well validated book should look like, and give you
experience dealing with all of the forms and steps involved in the
validation process.
The book is a young adult novel, and may not interest you. If that
is the case, well, just let it pass you by, and work with something
more to your liking. I think that others on the list will vouch for
my saying that you can trust that my scans shouldn't give you any
huge problems. My e-mail address is available, if you need any
clarification about anything in the book.
Good luck, and don't get too discouraged. We've all been
where you are.
And, go ahead and just release the book that you
have. Someone else with access to the BookShare collection can check
it out and see if a BSO copy is needed.

When you downloaded the book from the step 1 page, did it
have BSO at the beginning of the title, indicating that it was
submitted as a better scan of the book in the collection? If so,
then the answer to your question is definitely no, do not reject the
book. If the book did not have BSO in the title field, you can
either reject the book or download the copy that is in the collection
and compare its quality to that of the book that you just downloaded
from the step 1 page. If the quality of the book that you downloaded
from the step 1 page is better, you might want to validate the book,
and when returning the book for final approval, amend the title field
of the submission form by adding BSO at the beginning of the title to
let the BookShare staff know that you are offering an improved copy
of the book already in the collection. Those are your options as I see
them.
