Hi Julia!

I'm responding to your message on theBookshare Volunteer list wondering if there is an archive for the most recent meeting of the Writer's Practice Group. The meeting last week went swimmingly. I missed you not being there. We actually got started having people read aloud their prepared writing topics.

There is no archive, because the meeting didn't contain any real content other than people reading aloud their topics, and the shared discussion of each. Some people have said that they do not want to participate in the group, if that part of the meetings is going to be made available on the internet. Personally, I agree with this. What I bring to the group is practice, or a work in progress most of the time. That's what the group is designed for. I only want my polished works made available to the entire world. I'm private about my work in progress, and so are a lot of other people.

The meetings where a particular technique for improving writing, or strategy that we can use to be more consistent in keeping the commitment to writing, will have those sections archived. So, long story short, there was no archive for the last meeting because the time was filled with sharing our writing, the unrecorded part of the meeting.

I hope to see you there next week!

Peace,
Mayrie

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Writer's Practice Group Announcement

Hello Everyone,

The next meeting of The Writer's Practice Group will be on Wednesday, November 21 at 6:00 P.M. pacific time, 9:00 eastern time in the Friends Of Bookshare classroom. The link for the classroom is:

http://conference321.com/masteradmin/room.asp?id=rs0f1c528bd81b

We had a wonderful turn-out for this weeks meeting. I'd like to thank everyone who attended and who participated in the meeting for such an enthusiastic and supportive response to writing and to your fellow writers. I'd also like to encourage anyone with a hunger to write to join us at our next meeting. It is both thrilling and enlightening to share your writing and to hear the responses of others to that writing.

Below is a list of topics to spur you on in your daily writing practice this week. Please choose one of the first four topics to bring to the meeting and read aloud to the group. Due to the size of the group, the limitations of time, and the absolute necessity that as many people as possible be allowed to share their writing and receive the attention that each piece of writing deserves, please limit the piece of writing, or part of a piece of writing that you bring to read aloud to the group to something that can be read aloud in five minutes. This works out to about 1000 words.

If you are unable to read your writing aloud, it can be presented to the group to read on the screne during the group meeting. If you are unable to read aloud, and want to share, please send me your chosen piece of writing no later than 4:30 P.M. the day of the meeting on November 21, so that I can have it ready for the group to read. My e-mail address is

mrenae@xxxxxxxxxxx

You can send me your piece of writing or any questions you might have.

Have a great time writing!

Peace,
Mayrie

WRITING TOPICS FOR THE COMING WEEK
1. Write in different places-for example, in a laundromat, and pick up on the rhythm of the washing machines. Write at bus stops, in cafes. Write what is going on around you.

2. Visualize a place that you really love, be there, see the
details. Now write about it. It could be a corner of your
bedroom, an old tree you sat under one whole summer,
a table at McDonald's in your neighborhood, a place by
a river. What colors are there, sounds, smells? When
someone else reads it, she should know what it is like to
be there. She should feel how you love it, not by your
saying you love it, but by your handling of the details.

3. Write about "leaving." Approach it any way you want. Write about your divorce, leaving the house this morning, or a friend dying.

4. Write about the streets of your city.

5. Write about anything at all that interests you, just keep the commitment to yourself and to your writing to sit down and write. HAVE FUN!
