Ok I stand corrected, Reggie, but hey, this wild card searching is pretty darn
fun!

Not quite Reggie. You almost have it.

Let's say you have three books:
  window shopping for teapots
  windy teapot shop mystery
  and teapots wind and you.

If you put "wind*teapot" you would only get window shopping for teapots.
If you put "wind*teapot*" you would get window shopping for teapots and
  windy teapot shop mystery.
This is because the first search "wind*teapot" says search for any book that
starts with wind and ends with teashop.
The second search "wind*teashop*" says give me any book that starts with wind
and has teashop somewhere in it.

In order to get all three books you could search for "*wind*. Plus you'd get
any book that had wind in the title.

Confusing? I was afraid of that.

Bob, that is really great! So if I wanted to find a book with wind and
teapot say, I would put wind*teapot and then it would find any book that had
these 2 words or variations of these words in the title. If this is correct,
thank you and thanks Carrie. I just learned something new. Now if it will not
leave this sieve I have for a mind! (smiles)

    Wow!

Let me give you an example.

In the search field I entered and*none with no spaces in the field.

I was thinking of the Agatha Christie classic "and then there were none".
Would the search find that book?

And, yes it did plus one other (whose name I forget) (damn I haate this
aging thing and memory)!

In other words, the search had to begin with and, then it could contain
anything else, but it also had to end with none.

    Does that make sense?

I think that 0 - n means a series of numbers from zero to an indefinite
termination point.

I don't mind you asking at all Roger.

I will be 57 in November

      and thanks a million,

      I will hang in,

and truly most have bent over backwards to help me,

and I appreciate it, and I will probably have loads of questions as I go
along,

I'm glad you hung in there as well,

it wouldn't be the same, without your encouragement.

      Have a good evening,

      and again thanks so much.

Hi Gwen, I notice that you and Amber are having a little difficulty with
Elizabeth. To be honest, I really don't think she means to offend. She is just
a bit blunt and undiplomatic. It could also be a bit of the fact that
tone of voice does not translate well in email. Nevertheless, even as I read her
comments to you and Amber before I read your responses I did think myself
that she was being a little harsh. I will assure you, though, that she is
something
of a stickler for accuracy in topic line. Whenever a thread strays away
from its original topic she will admonish someone to change the subject line and
if someone brings up an off topic matter and forgets to put O T in the
subject line you will be sure she will remind them. Unfortunately, her reminders
are always rather blunt. Whether she just accidentally offends or is just
cantankerous, though, I don't think any of the rest of us think you have done
anything wrong and I, at least, quite enjoy having you on the list. Our
job on this list is to help each other and as a new volunteer who does not know
all the technical details of volunteering you give us a chance to do our
job. It will be especially gratifying when we have done our job so well that we
will see you giving helpful advice to the newbies to come. I certainly
hope that you will not unsubscribe and I very much hope you will not give up. At
the same time I can know how you feel. About last January on the
Bookshare general discussion list I made a casual comment that a lot of people
apparently
did not like. Suddenly I was the recipient of a torrent of personal
attacks. My efforts to defend myself caused a list member to report me to
Bookshare
for being "disruptive." I was even accused of being angry and bitter. I
don't think anyone who knows me personally would think I was angry and bitter.
Well, it was only an email list, but I think I can say that my feelings
were a bit hurt, to say the least. I hung in here, though, and I hope you will
do the same. After all, in your case it is only one person.

Now, I have a question if you don't mind my asking. If you do, just don't
answer and it will be okay. In one of your responses you said something about
what you would do if you were an older person. Somehow I had been
thinking of you as being in your early thirties and when you said that I
realized that
I had absolutely no reason to think that or to think you were any age.
Now I am a bit curious. I wonder how old you might be?

be free if it oppresses other nations? It cannot." Vladimir Lenin
