Sue, I just realized that you posted this to both lists, and I only replied to the bookshare-discuss list. So I'll paste what I wrote here too. The old wishlist way didn't work very well either though. I agree that people shoudln't have to join a list just to submit a wish request. But I do like that the wishes come to the list, I just wish they came to the volunteer list instead of the other list. I like the way, when it is posted to the list, that people will say no, I can't get that book, or yes, I can get that book and I will commit to scanning it. With the old way, a person could click on the link where you said you would scan it, but it was still displayed and no one had a way of knowing if somene was scanning the book or not. And even after it was in the collection, it was still on the wishlist. It's too bad the wishlist didn't work the way the step 1 list worked. A person made a request, and then it would show up on the wishlist. Step 2 would be a person clicks to commit to scan the wish, and it shows up on a wish in progress list. Step 3 would be the person uploads the wish, and it transfers to the step 1 download list. So before you scanned a book you would check the collection to make sure it's not in the collection, you'd check the books in progress page to be sure it hasn't already been scanned and is either awaiting validation or approval, and you'd also check the wish in progress list to be sure it wasn't a book someone else was already scanning. Theoretically, a person could also type in a book as a wish, and then click it to scan it themselves. That way people would know someone was already scanning that book. Just an idea . . .
