Getting books into the Bookshare collection is a challenging but extremely rewarding process for many volunteers. It involves scanning a book and then validating or proof reading it. Volunteers can scan only, validate only, or scan and validate books scanned by others. In other words volunteers cannot validate any book they have scanned. The process is outlined by guidelines set out in the recently released Volunteer Manual. These, of course, are admittedly guidelines and leaves the specific details of how to meet the requirement to the expertise and discretion of the volunteer. Consequently, there are a variety of methods that accomplish both tasks well. On Thursday, October 4, attention will be directed to the validating process. Louise Gourdoux, both a scanner and a validator, will begin by sharing some valuable tips she has learned from the many years she has volunteered for Bookshare. It is then hoped that other experienced validators will join the discussion by sharing their methods and helpful tips. This meeting will be of particular interest to new validators or to those who want to improve the way they validate books. Join us for a two-hour session beginning at 5:00 p.m. PDT, 8:00 p.m. Edt, in the Friends of Bookshare community room at: http://conference321.com/masteradmin/room.asp?id=rs7867a2369e0e To unsubscribe from this list send a blank Email to bksvol-discuss-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx put the word 'unsubscribe' by itself in the subject line.
