Kellie, I see what you mean. The bookshare tool for Braille translation has a lot to be desired. The engineers are working on it. I never had to invent my own code the way I did for linguistics. I just am pretty sure that the translation tool for Bookshare doesn't have the facility for calculus and beyond. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I'm not. If the translator recognizes certain signs, like less-than or greater-than, it will actually write it out in words. I can't imagine what it would do with things like "is not equal to" or "Is less than or equal to" etc. There are signs in braille for the Greek letters and trig functions. You usually learn the symbols gradually as you tackle each mathematical concept.
