Thank you again!
It does make sense. I sort of figured that out, but the text in the proofing
guidelines was a bit confusing.

With regard to the asterisks,
Separate the note at the bottom from the text with * * * on a line by itself
Then, one star, a space, and the text of the note.
The manual doesn't make it clear whether a star should precede the text but
I'm guessing it should because if a number were there, the number would
precede the text.
Hope all this makes sense.
I have Word 365 current version and the keystrokes I mentioned in the
earlier message work as I described.
If you had a book with many such asterisks, you could make a macro to do the
steps with just alt combined with a number such as alt-8.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Uncertain about Footnotes
Hello, Booksharians:
I am proofing a book where the footnote indicator is a * .
I know that I should superscript the indicator. Is there a hotkey for doing
this in Word 2019?
The footnotes are at the end of the page. I read in the Proofing manual how
to treat these notes, but I am uncertain whether I am treating them
correctly.
Below is a sample of what I am doing.
I am placing one * on the line before my example to keep it separated from
the text of this email.
Please advise whether I am correct.
Thank you.
