Scott, check the bookshare database and make sure they’re not already out
there. If you can, it would be helpful to know if the books are on the current
best seller list or are from publishers whose books are likely to be pq’d. This
isn’t always easy to determine and I wouldn’t not do it because of this but it
is better to do work that isn’t going to be wiped out by a publisher quality
add. If they’re older books, we’re probably all right. If you decide to work
with me, post here and I’ll send you my contact info.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: Unable to Install Latest Version of K1000
Hi, Bookshare fans. I'm a totally new voice on here.
I found out that Bookshare isn't doing any in-house chopping or scanning any
more (something all you people probably already know) but I have 4 hardcopy
books--3 science fiction paperback anthologies and 1 action/adventure YA novel
I'd like to get incorporated into the Bookshare database if possible.
But I don't have up-to-date scanning equipment. So I was wondering if any of
you good people would be interested in scanning/proofreading some new pleasure
books for the Bookshare database.
If any of you is interested, here's my pertinent info.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Unable to Install Latest Version of K1000
Hey Guys,
Just wondering if any of you have had this problem and if so, what you did
to solve it.
I was using K1000 version 11.03. Today I bought the latest version, which I
think is version 14.4.
Well, they sent me a link to download the latest version so I wouldn’t have
to wait for the CD. I download the file, (or whatever it is, more on that in a
moment), 1.6GB in size.
I download and save the whatever it is, with the name:
K1000_k1_1414_W_F
Then, thinking it’s a folder, I hit Enter on it to find out what’s inside,
expecting to find, among other files, a .exe file such as Setup.exe, or
Install.exe or something similar. Instead, my Windows 7 asks me if I want to
open this file. There’s no file extension on it, but it seems my Windows 7
thinks that it is a file. So I click Okay. Then, my Windows 7 asks me what
program I want to open the file with. Now I’m stuck. I have no idea! That’s not
how an installation works.
And, as I was instructed over the phone today, I uninstalled my version
11.03 just before trying to open this file or folder or whatever it is,
thinking
that it should be pretty straightforward to install the new version.
So now I’m stymied on a Friday evening, with no K1000 at all, and with no
customer support until Monday.
Anyone else gone through this and knows what to do?
I have written to Customer Support of course, but I’m not going to hear
from them until Monday morning at the earliest. Kurzweil Educational Systems,
in
their infinite wisdom, took down their support email list, so we don’t have
that
option to get help anymore when the company is closed.
Thanks for any advice.
Evan
