Well, the section sign is not the same as the section break. I was able to determine that much. However, while I can create section breaks in Word, they are invisible to K1000. I have not yet been able to find the ASCII value of the section break so as to try and see if I can locate them with K1000, even if it does not speak them. I was wrong in that you cannot just put your cursor on a character like that and have it's value spoken to you the way you can with letters and numbers. I guess I should have expected that, the section break being a control character like the page break or hard return, which don't actually appear as such in the document. That shouldn't be too hard to find out. I think this method should be possible whether K1000 recognizes them or not. If this method is not possible, then I doubt there's another way to replace them. There is a character that K1000 does recognize called the section sign, which has value 0167. But I am not sure if this is the section break or not. If not, then I would be interested to know what the value for the section break is, so I can test whether K1000 can be used to replace them. Although I haven't needed to do that lately. The last few books I have gotten had page breaks already. If someone has JAWS or Window Eyes, and they have a document with the section break in it, then it is an easy matter to find out what the value of the character is. In JAWS, just hit the 5 key on the numpad three times, and it will give you the value; in Window Eyes, you can get it by hitting control and the delete on the numpad together. Make sure the numlock is off first. I don't recognize these in braille books and I assume it doesn't mean a new chapter. When scanning a book, are section breaks recognized by Kurzweil? Thank you. To my knowledge, Kurzweil cannot recognize the section breaks in Carrie's scans. FineReader inserts them, and that's something Carrie can't change. She would if her software would allow it. Someone else may know things I don't. When I take one of Carrie's books, I load it into Word and fix the section breaks. I save it and then load it in Kurzweil to finish validating. That scheme works well for me. I wish I had a better answer to give you.
