Hi Ann and Jamie. Thanks for this response! By the way, neither of you were the person I was referring to in my previous e-mail. I just want to make sure I do the best proofing I possibly can, so I am sure to have questions since I am new to this. I know my scans are good because I work very hard to fix them before I submit them. I guess that just comes with the territory of loving to read though. LOL. I hate errors in my books. The other day I was scanning something, and a few of the pages came out horribly. I tried to rescan the facing pages as I had done initially, but that didn't work. So I had to hold the book halfway on the scanner so that the top of the offending page was facing the back of the scanner since this particular one seems to prefer pages like that when text is unclear. As soon as I did that, poof! The page came out crystal clear! -Alyssa -----Original Message----- From: bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Ann Parsons Sent: Sunday, March 22, 2009 2:37 PM To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: request of submitters Hi all, On Sun, Mar 22, 2009 at 12:34:52PM -0400, Alyssa wrote: > I agree with you Laura Ann. Alyssa, it is unfortunate that you had such an experience. However, the person who responded may have had a bad day, may have thought you knew more than you did at the time, may have tried to answer you in haste and bungled the job. The thing to remember in any online community is that people are people wherever you find them, some are nice, some are not nice, some are grumpy and some, a few, are evil. Two, email is one of the very worst vehicles of communication at times because you cannot tell what a person really means. the smile in the voice doesn't come across. The leaning forward to indicate listening can't be felt. The tone of helpfulness or sarcasm or anything else may not come across in the person's writing. If you think you were insulted, read the message a couple of times, then, ask for clarification. <smiling with twinkle> That, of course, is easier said than done. Also, the reaction of one person should never deter you from doing something or being something, or attaining something you really want. If you are determined to accomplish something, and especially if you are doing it for somebody else, tell the whole world to go fly a kite if you have to do so. You know you're supposed to do whatever it is, so, you do it, and to blazes with anyone who is rude or hasty. Now of course, what you could do is ask the churl you encountered to clarify and to give you the info you asked for, but since this list and many others are full of helpful people, I'd just wait for the next person to come along. Why aggravate yourself? Leaven your days with humor and confidence, and you can't go wrong. Hmmm, BTW, if it was I who was grumbly, I am sometimes, accept my apology. Ann P. -- AAnn K.
