Subject: [bksvol-discuss] The story of a book

Hi, this is not a problem or anything, so if you are in a hurry skip this message.

I recently finished validating the lab manual for setting up a windows server. Not a thrilling read, but even dull books deserve love.

Anyway, I was looking for something light to follow that book up with, and I downloaded Izzy, Willy-Nilly, sorry, I don't remember the author.

This is a book for teens (which I'm definitely not) girls (which I'm not either), but it looked easy and dull.

So, off we went. First I spell checked it and the only problems seemed to be proper names, no problem. Then I did the corrections thing in Kurzweil, no major problem their either; a few headings and the like.

Finally, I decided to read a little of the book to spot check errors. This is a book about a fifteen year old girl who has part of her leg amputated following an automobile accident; her adjustments and the adjustments of her family and her schoolmates.

About five hours later I regrettably reached the last page with a slight tear in my eye, and a lump in my throat. And a glad feeling inside that I had read this book.

So, I guess the lesson to be learned here is that even those books we think are going to be a chore turn out to be gems to remember. I guess that's one of the benefits of validating.

Whoever scanned that book deserves a big thanks. Validating that one was pretty much a formality, and really a pleasure.
Thanks,
Bob
