I'll check this. I note that there are settings for optimizing scanning and
for optimizing recognition. I've never played with these. Before writing
this message I tried it out but my computer repeatedly scanned at least ten
or fifteen times with no end in sight. Of course I should look at the
Kurzweil manual. If you have any thoughts you think the manual doesn't cover
I sure would appreciate them. Normally I scan in hynamic rather than
gray-scale.

I've noticed those missing apostrophes in my own scans. There's no perfect
solution, short of reading through it, but you might get some improvement if
you use the Optimize Scanning feature of K1000. Grayscale works pretty well
most of the time, but it is not always the optimal setting. You can always
override the settings K1000 chooses if you think you can do better--I do it
myself sometimes--but I think it would be a good idea to try it out. Even if
it only makes an error every other page difference, that can add up over a
300 or 400 page book.

Hi List members,
I'm new to this list but not new to Bookshare. I've been proofing books
since 2010.
Regarding scanning though, I've noticed that apostrophes in possessives
often are missing. Sometimes there's a space between the word and the s.
These are easy to fix globally with space s space.
Worse though are the possessives where the apostrophe is missing and there's
no space. Only reading the text can reveal where these are.
Has anyone discovered a partial or total cure for this? When I scan I use
Kurzweil 1000 and use standard settings, not changing contrast from the
standard settings. I'm guessing there's no real solution to this but maybe
there is!
