Actually I wasn't singling anyone out. I wanted to find an example and yours wasn't one. Sure there are teams so be it. Three months is a long time for this particular book and it is a children's book. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Valerie Maples" <vlmaples@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Robert;

Well, you need to know what you are commenting on, then. And, yes, I feel I have a right to be offended. Over the past year I have invested all of my fun money in buying books to add that I want to read that were requested and no one was doing. Proofreading is my fun and I actually prefer it to reading. The policy was softened after feedback about the brief period so that those of us with extenuating circumstances can still work on the books we bought or dealt with library systems as well as series partnerships. I have worked with a few excellent scanners who I have sent books to or I do them as their library gets them and some times they come in waves. I may not have any for a month and then 6 in a week. I still think since I bought them for the specific purpose of adding them I should be able to proof them.

I will try to refrain from looking at new wishlist items and help the few people I have already promised books to and just do mine from here out.

I didn't read the message below yours and there is no reason to be offended. I just brought it up for discussion due to the book way back in December and yes I respect the honor system. I am going by what the policy came into being back in January, maybe the proof reader had a problem or just forgot about the book. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Valerie Maples" <vlmaples@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Robert;

I was replying to Tracy who said she had poached books in the past. Again, Carrie said she would retain holds on agreement of the scanner and proofreader. In my case, sometimes getting my books shipped back to me can take a while for me to have the text to proof from.

I guess I will just quit lending my eyes and only do "my" books that I have bought or requested if people are going to be so nasty about respecting holds or understanding why some of us want to volunteer instead of free reading. I will quit buying books on my series I am supplying if there is going to be so much dissension on whether I can proof books I spent our limited funds on to add to the collection.

Y'all sure do know how to ruin a good thing!

Please don't poach mine (hold for Valerie or Valerie Maples)! I spent lots of money buying books just so I could scan or proof. i do not read anything; just proof and try to help out when people need sight on some books so sometimes my own requests are there longer than others.

Please ask before poaching; that really is unkind to those of us who have invested our own money to add books we want to read who never check out, only volunteer!

And, frankly, if something has had a "hold for" for several months, and
I'm really interested, I might poach.
