Actually, Evan, there is a preventative that has been used. If a book with a "hold for" is taken by someone else, without permission, the real proofreader can contact Carrie. Bookshare will then refuse to give the violator of the honor system any credit for proofreading the book and, if needed, the book can then get properly proofread by the person who it was being held for.

I'm in the same boat as Valerie. I've bought many books and sent them to others who have agreed to scan them. I don't want someone else who doesn't pay attention to detail proofreading those books.

There's nothing to prevent someone from checking out a book with someone else's name on it. The hold for system is based on the honor system. As long as people use hold fors responsibly, then that works well. If people abuse it, however, the honor system breaks down.

For nearly all of the hold fors I submit, unless people look at the Check Out page more than once a day, they'll never even see them.
