Hi Cindy,
Beverly did say she would proof the book, but please know that I appreciate
your offer.

Hi Paula,
Beverly is a wonderful sighted proofreader and a personal friend of ours.
She's assisted us on problems similar to yours on several occasions and is
wonderful with a fantastic sense of humor as well. Good luck and I'm sure
she will do a fine job with your book!
Susan

Hi Lori,
Hoping there's some way to deal with this so I can submit this book.
I just don't know what the protocol is for dealing with this kind of
problem.
If I was just scanning for my own personal use, I'd just leave those few
characters out, but I'm sure that would be an unacceptable solution for a
Bookshare submission.
However, Lissi went through all the trouble of mailing books to me for
scanning, so I have to get this figured out somehow.

Paula Mack

No, it happens quite a lot of chapter titles and numbers. I think it
is either because the letters are ununusally large, printed in a
strange, visual way, or some other weird reason.
I guess thetechnology just isn't smart enough yet.

I so appreciate you addressing my question. I wouldn't mind scanning
the book again if necessary.
I just can't believe that none of the OCR solutions that I have at my
disposal could decipher these few characters. It's very strange.

Hi Paula,
You have a few options--rescanning the book is a little extreme and I
wouldn't advise doing it.
We have a few sighted proofers who can sometimes get a "peek" at
pages of
book on Amazon.com. Putting the request on this list may get you
offers of help.
Yes, you can send the print book to someone to get the information
for you--it's your book and there is no reason why you can't send it.
The one thing you **cannot** do is send your scan to someone to fix for
line.before
I actually would be surprised if you don't get an offer of assistance
too long.to
Deborah

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] The Night Spies: Problem with chapter
titles
hi fellow volunteers:
I am presently doing some cleanup on the second book that Lissi sent
me
scan.Series.
It is The Night Spies by Kathy Kacer from the Holocaust Remembrance
The problem is that some--but not all--chaper titles have dates andput
no matter how I try to read them, I just can't. Most of them, look
like impossible dates or just like garbage characters.
Is there any protocol for mailing the printed book to someone who
could
in those missing dates: maybe check all chapter titles in case thereof
are other illegible things?
Or, should I re-scan the book, keep images and email someone the image.
In addition to Kurzweil, I tried
reading those Pages with the Seeing A I app and with the Knfb Reader
app, but no go.
Someone who knows the ropes, please let me know what is the proper
way to handle this issue. Meanwhile, I'll keep doing cleanup.
