Hi Bookshare Friends and Staff,

I agree wholeheartedly with what has been posted so far concerning the hold
issue but would like to ask several questions. Why can't new volunteers work
to establish partnerships with others as those of us who have volunteered
for a long time have done? Is this new policy carved in stone? After reading
valid points brought up by several reliable, helpful and long time
volunteers, I do hope the decision will be reconsidered. It's beginning to
feel as though the new volunteers are the only ones who are valued now.
Larry and I too purchase books to add to Bookshare's collection, and, as he
has said, if I do not proof what he scans, there are certain volunteers he
likes to work with who he knows will do a good job on his books. Several
sighted volunteers have also been most helpful to us in securing chapter
numbers and other items which our scanner may have missed. Like Valerie and
Doug, we too are on a limited income and try to purchase books which we hope
Bookshare does not have in its collection. As Larry stated, why can't the
volunteers handle the hold issue among themselves as has been done in the
past? Please reconsider this decision. Thanks for letting me vent on this
subject.
