I understand, and that's not my point. My point is that, when I did similar scans, I was told they couldn't be used, and that to volunteer, I needed to work out my issues. Which I tried and tried to do! Now I've done it. It's not fair to me or any other volunteer scanner putting out good scans to have sighted volunteers take hours and hours to proofread these scans, when a blind or sighted scanner with working software and a copy of the books, could do it in lots less time! It just doesn't make sense!
I wish Bookshare could provide software to make sure interested volunteers could do acceptable scans.
And by the way, except in this context, I find the scans you've done quite acceptable to read. They just don't meet Bookshare's quality guidelines, and while they can be fixed, they shouldn't be, because a new scan could be accomplished much more quickly than the proofing that's been offered.
