Let me do some checking on shipping costs. There aren't too many, maybe nine or ten. Some of them are larger than others but I don't think any of them should be too difficult. This will be a good project for our high-speed scanner at the City University when it's not too busy fulfilling students requests. We would also do some cleanup work as well. We won't be able to afford the shipping though. In the past, I've accepted practically any book that is in decent condition for in-house scanning and production. Textbooks, however, pose a nightmare for in-house validation efforts due to the number of diagrams and columns that need to be fixed for the books to be legible. As we try to produce about 25-50 books a week in-house, this poses a timing problem. Even scanning, which would normally take five minutes on our high speed scanner, turns into an hour long process of double feeds and paper jams due to the slickness of the paper. That said, if you were to submit your text books, we would get to them eventually (possibly six months to a year from now), and I would kick them back to the validation page for editing and hope for the best. Is there a remote volunteer with a scanner who would like to take on this project? Lisa, can you give us an idea of how many books you have and where you're located to get a sense of the possible shipping costs involved and the amount of scanning time we're looking at? I was just wondering if bookshare accepts the donation of books for in-house scanning. I have several textbooks from my graduate work in counseling psychology. Now that I've graduated, I don't need them anymore and they're just taking up space. I don't have access to a scanner so I can't scan them myself. Does bookshare accept them? Please help me to clean out my closet of all of these textbooks. (smile) Lisa
