Hi, the term of opprobrium I picked up is "jiffy proofreader" meaning a
person who checks out a book, glances over it (figuratively) and turns it
in. I am not a jiffy proofreader because when I decide to do a project, I
read the whole book from word first to word last. I am the picky soul who
asks submitters about the book pagination, copying snippets of text into
emails to assure myself concerning what the submitter knows is in the book
when I'm in need of knowledge. I'm wondering what jargon word will suit the
perfectionists in the group. Regards, Kim Friedman.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Talking Booksharian

Bookshare Volunteers,

This week it occurred to us just how differently we sometimes use words here
at Bookshare.

We certainly have our own set of abbreviations and acronyms. What other
online community can hold such erudite discussions of ellipses, scanner
settings, or British punctuation for so long? Where else can you cause such
turmoil if you confuse "submit" with "check-in"?

As we brainstormed what sort of orientation and training material to create
for new volunteers we found that we had generated a word list that could be
the start of a glossary. Read through the list below. If you think of other
words, acronyms, or concepts that we might be helpful for new volunteers
gather them up and email them to me or - if you want to hold the discussion
online - post them to the list for others to add to.

Enjoy the long weekend.

Bookshare Volunteer Coordinator, Interim
