How many pages is your book? I wonder if it was done as one page but two
pages were placed on the screen, so you get two columns.
None of our books is done in columns or with weird font. I'd change it if I
were you.

As I down-arrow through this book JAWS says
1 text columns
pressing the right arrowmakes JAWS say
2 text columns.
Checking the font shows formatting very different from books I've previously
prooffd.
Should I attempt to remove style formatting and columns?
