Thanks, Rob. All that needs to be done is to delete the French sounding letters
and replace them with the same letters, which seems to correct their
pronunciation. It was the number of them which prompted me to try and find a
more automated solution to fixing them. Will not fixing these in the book
affect the pronunciation of words in the file when it is downloaded by members
who use screen readers to read the book? It was concern that it might do so
which prompted her to fix them when she encountered them.

Hi Evan,
The simplest solution would be to turn off language detection in JAWS. To
change it temporarily:
· To open the Verbosity Options menu, hold down Insert then tap v
· To move to "Language Detect change", repeatedly tap l, or just
down-arrow to it
· To change the setting, press spacebar
· To finish, press the Enter key
This results in a temporary settings change.

A friend of mine is proofreading this book using MS Word and JAWS that has a
very strange problem. It seems that there are quite a number of letters
scattered randomly throughout the book that her JAWS pronounces as though they
were French, however they have the same ANSI value as the English letters. For
example, the English letter t is pronounced the way it would be pronounced in
French, so when JAWS comes to a word with that letter, it mispronounces the
word. Sometimes, there are letter combinations such as tr or ry that are
pronounced as though they were in French. Since these French letters have the
same ANSI value as the English letters, there seems to be no way of fixing
these with a search and replace. Most of the letters are correct, but there are
enough of these French letters to cause a significant slowdown in the
proofreading of what is otherwise an excellent scan.
Does anyone know what's going on, and whether this problem can be corrected
without having to do all of these by hand?
