Hi Gerald,

Yes, this fixed the problem. Thank you very much. And that checkbox is
tricky, and the only state JAWS will identify is Not Checked. Nice button.

Thanks again. I can validate happily now.

  Lora,

You need to mark the entire text using Ctrl-A, go into the Language menu
under Tools and open up the Set Language dialog box. There you'll need to make
sure the option labeled "Do not Check spelling or grammar" is not checked. You
may also need to mark the text you've selected as English before you can get
the spell checker to stop ignoring the text. Word 2000 didn't require that,
but I'm finding that Word 2003 does. BTW, be sure that the checkbox says not
checked when you uncheck it because it's one of those three state checkboxes.
It normally is blank when I first move to it, changes to check on the first
press of the spacebar, then to unchecked on the second press.

You may also need to undo whatever changes you made under the Spelling
options, and there's also a button at the bottom of the Spelling options which
you may need to press which is changed to Recheck Document after the spell
checker has been run. This button will allow you to start over from scratch
with a spell check.

Let me know if this doesn't work, and I'll help you make sure all of your
options under Set Language and Spelling are set properly.

  HTH

  Gerald

  Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Spellchecking in Word

I'm trying to spell check a book I downloaded for validation, but Word says
that certain text has been marked and will be skipped during the spell check.
It then doesn't spell check anything.

I went into Tools, Options, and tried resetting the spell checker. Now, I no
longer receive this message, but Word still won't spell check the document. I
already know there are errors, because I went and changed all the 1's to I's,
and found misspellings of Laurell K. Hamilton on the page headers.

How do I convince Word that I really do want to spell check the entire
document, despite what it thinks?

  Thanks,

  Lora
