good point George.

As an aging bit fiddler myself, I've thought about the programatic problems of the stripper, and I think it's a simple logical problem.

The stripper is supposed to strip repetitive text from the top of pages. Only problem is, it strips "all" repetitive text. In fact, it should ignore the first occurrence of a text that is repeated on subsequent pages (i.e. book title, story title, chapter heading).

Just a guess.

Hi:
Coming from an old programmer, I suspect the programmer who wrote the original source code is long gone (or it was a purchased package). In either case I would guess the current programmers don't understand part or all of the stripper code, thus the only solution is a complete rewrite. I reluctantly admit we programmers (were or are) notorious for writing bad or no documentation.

Darrel we volunteers have been asking for, pleading for, such an explanation for over six years now.

Hello Everyone,

We have all been going around and around about this converter / stripper tool and its behaviors for a very long time now. I feel the ultimate solution to our concerns is actually quite simple and does not have to involve making any changes in any code at this time. All that is needed is a detailed description from the engineer(s) who created and maintain this tool as to exactly what steps it takes while processing a book. Such an understanding could then be codified into a set of instructions that would serve to enhance the existing and updated Volunteer Manual so that we know exactly what we can and cannot do when validating books.
