Wow! What a powerful book! I uploaded it just now (2 a.m., Pacific time) so it will be added to the collection tomorrow, I'm sure. Then I'm back to the World at Arms. Side Effects is listed as Young Adult and it's a fictional detailed account of a teenager's treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma; she's one of the 88 per cent of people who are cured--at least for the moment. If I had a child who was diagnosed with cancer, would I want them to read this book in advance to know what lay ahead of them? I don't think so. Perhaps it's a good book to read for healthy children or adults who know someone who's undergoing chemo for cancer in order to understand what that person is going through. If I should be diagnosed with cancer, at my age, having had a good life, I'll choose no treatment. For an empathic person, this was a hard book to read.
