Hi, Mayrie.
I'm reluctant to do that because these are thick books and it will take sevearl
hours to scan and clean them up. I hesitate
to do that if I don't have a proofer lined up.
I'll definitely do it if we get a proofer though.

Hi Christina,

Thanks for the offer. Let's see if anyone shows some interest over the next
few days. I suppose you could scan and just submit, hoping for an interested
proofreader from the broader, nonlisters volunteer community.

Hi, Mayrie.
I'd be willing to scan some of these if we can find a proofer.

takers

Hi folks,

On the Bookshare-discuss list a reader has presented this series of science
fiction books which it would be terrific if Bookshare could complete.

Notes have been made as to whether Bookshare has each of the books listed,
and the quality of those in the collection. My hope is that not only will
some folks be interested in completing the series, but also in rescanning
the books on the list rated only "good". If any of you have read a book
with a "good" rating, that is a generous assessment of quality. I
understand that with this genre, nonstandard words are often present in
books, and thus, a book's rating as "good" may be inaccurate. So, it'd be
absolutely terrific if whoever might be interested in working on completing
this series would also be willing to look at the books rated "good" that
Bookshare has and determine whether they need to be rescanned. That way the
series will be of excellent quality entirely.

Here's the series description created by the reader, and the list of books
in the series.

The Lost Regiment, by William Forstchen.
Series synopsis: in this alternate worlds science fiction, a Maine regiment
during the American civil war--loosely based on the 20th Maine of Gettysburg
fame--is transported to an alien world filled with Russians, Romans,
Carthaginians, and human-eating Mongolesque aliens who think they own the
world. Colonel Keane and the men of the 35th Maine battle the overwhelming
might of the flesh-eating hordes with technical ingenuity, and by harnessing
the oppressed human populations they find there. The series contains nine
books as follows:
1. Rally cry, on bookshare rated excellent.
2. The Union Forever, not on bookshare.
3. Terrible Swift Sword, on bookshare rated excellent.
4. Faithful Lightning, not on bookshare.
5. Battle hymn, not on bookshare.
6. Never Sound Retreat, on bookshare rated good.
7. A Band of Brothers, on bookshare rated good.
8. Men of War, Not on bookshare.
9. Down to the Sea, on bookshare rated good.

So, anybody interested in working on this series? If no one is interested
in keeping records of who is doing which books, whether scanning or
proofreading, I'd be willing to do that part. But someone else is welcome to
step up and shepherd the project if interested.

Mayrie
