Hey Booksharians!
For some reason I can't figure out to respond to the digest versions of emails
I see so I had to change my subscription to get all the emails again! Scott
pointed this one out to me so I wanted to comment on it.

We are well aware that not everyone was thrilled with the phonetic matching put
into place with the full text search implementation. If you don't want it to
search phonetically ("sounds like") then put your search query into quotes. We
also know you may not want to search the entire text of the book, however the
relevancy scoring that is being done actually does weight author and title
higher than anything else, so if exact matches are not surfacing in the top of
the list for you AND they exist in the collection, then it's a bug and we need
to tweak the scoring algorithm. I'm sure it could use some improvement so feel
free to use "contact Us" on the website to file technical issues and we'll work
on them.

As for devices like the K1000 and others like the Icon that have implemented
our webservice API which allows them to search and download from bookshare
without having to go to the website – the search implemented in these devices
is the old database driven search. It's less performant and less flexible so
results are going to be slightly different. We are about to change that in the
next month so all of the devices using our API will be able to start using the
search engine on the site (as soon as they modify their own software to take
advantage of it, though some things we will implement without them having to
change anything at all).

I hope this helps a little bit, and do know we will be doing some more tweaking
on search in the near future so please post your thoughts and comments on the
FeedBack forum idea called "Improve the Book Search
Tools<http://bookshare.uservoice.com/forums/48297-bookshare-product-ideas/suggestions/961051-improve-the-book-search-tools?ref=title>"
 - there are currently only 9 votes so it doesn't appear really important to me
unless people vote it up and comment on it.

Thanks!

I have a similar problem except mine is with K1000 v.11. I have looked for New
Deal or Raw Deal by Burton Folsom Jr.. It shows up on a BookShare search, but
not at all with K1000 whether I use author or title fields.

I want to add to Jamie's issue about searching.

I did an advanced search today and filled in only the author field.
The author's name that I was searching for is Dorianne Laux.
What came up in the results field was a book by Darrien Lee, definitely no
relation to Dorianne Laux!

Puzzled,
Lori C.
