I always found the lid getting in the way. So don't use it, and use my hand
or in the case of optomizing, another book to weigh it down.

stare up the steps - we must step up the stairs.

Hello all,

Whether you'll use the lid or not to put pressure on the book wil depend on
the type and size of that particular book. I've found that 9 times out of
ten, the pressure with the lid is quite sufficient for not only the edges
but for the binding as well. For normal-sized paperbacks, I often use my
hands since I tend to set my scanner's margins for the length of the
paperback and I tend to finish a particular scan in a very short time.
Books that are slightly larger than paperbacks are the best candidates for
using the lid as a pressure device. With the lid, you can apply firm,
consistent pressure whereas that may not happen consistently without the
lid, especially when you're dealing with large books.
