Shelly,

My best suggestion on this type of behavior is to first ensure that your
scanner platten is completely clean. I'm sure you've done that, though.
Reinstall the twain driver or the driver that you're using. If all else
fails, ask for nonblindy assistance to see if the original immages have any
noticeable defect by sanning images through the scanner software. As I
recall, you're using an Epson. And you should be able to accomplish this
through the Epson software. If you want, you can scan a few images through
K1K and e-mail them to me privately at pratikp1@xxxxxxxxxx I put them
through their paces. In fact, send recognition results for the same pages.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Scanner dying

How do you know when or how your scanning is behaving.

I am seeing some things in my scans that are particularly annoying, but I am
not sure if they are caused by the scanner, or the OCR package.

They used to only happen using scansoft or "Newance" as it is called now,
but now even in Fine Reader it is happening.

The most annoying things are split words, not missing letters usually, and
also missing letters or parts of words. I don't know if it is just the
books I am using, but it is happening on a lot of different books, of
different quality, so am very confused.

I don't know how to tell if my scanner is hitting the dust, and of course,
then the question also arises, what should I try to use instead. Sigh.
