[bksvol-discuss] Re: Scanner Comparison Question?

I have used a 3800 scanner for a couple of years. And I also really have liked it.

I am using it on a Windows 7 machine, and with K-1000 version 12..04.

There is one thing happening with my scanner, that makes me think that eventually it will bite the dust. Something inside there gets to knocking and rattling and banging away. I guess it gets out of alignment or something. I usually have just continued to hit Scan and eventually it stops and works again. I wish I knew what it was and what I might do to fix it. But to send it off and repair it? I don't know, seems like those days of service are sort of gone by the way of the shoe repair shop.

But if anyone knows about such an issue with theirs, and has a suggestion. I am all ears.

Thanks.
Rik

Thanks, Debbie! So glad you're enjoying your 3800. Like you, if it does
the job well, I'm not particularly interested in spending well over twice
the amount for the 4800 to get a little more speed. accuracy and gentleness
on my books (and my wrists whenever possible, LOL) are far more important to
me.

Happy New Year to you, too!

Warmest,
Kim

Hi Kim!

I have only used the 3800 and enjoy it very much. It's fast and scans well. I understand the 4800 is faster, but I didn't want to pay that much extra for the speed gain. To me, it wasn't worth the extra cost, because I upgraded from an ancient HP IIP, which was a lot slower compared to the 3800, so I'm satisfied and then some.

Happy New Year to you Kim and everyone on the list.

Hi all,

Hope everyone is enjoying a fun, festive and fabulous holiday season.

I know we've been around this topic several times, so please forgive something of a repeat. My dad gave me a heck of a Christmas gift and offered to buy me the book scanner of my choice, so at last and to my total delight, I'll be starting to scan regularly and abundantly for Bookshare. I'm nervous, but also very excited. What a present!

So, to those of you who have used the Optic-Book 4800, how does it compare to the 3800, if you've used it? If the 3800 will sufficiently meet a regular scanner's needs, I'm perfectly happy to stick with it. Any other scanners to consider? Is there something similar to the 3800 that is also large enough to accommodate a larger book, say, a coffee table sized one?

All experiences / advice very appreciated. Anything will be marvelous after my little Cannon flatbed. *smile*

I really look forward to becoming a regular scanner, and to volunteering in that capacity. I'm sure the first submission will be the most daunting, psychologically, anyway. Hahaha.

Thanks so much.

Warmest Wishes,
Kim
