Hi Denise. If you wish, I'd be happy to validate ... uh ... proofread your first scan. It would be an honor. I'll try to answer some of your questions, though I don't know about all of them. 1. Do the pages that have a chapter number also need a page number if the book itself doesn't have a page number? (i.e. should I add the page numbers?) If your book doesn't have page numbers otherwise, then don't worry about page numbers. However, the notorious stripper program that bookshare runs against our books may strip the chapter headings unless you give it something to strip instead. Therefore, some people put page numbers. But a line with three or four asterisks will do just as well and seems easier to write than a page number. You said: "2a. Does anyone know the difference between a "Section Break (Continuous)" and a "Page Break" in Word? My OCR ended up using Section Break instead of Page Break and I don't know if that is going to make a difference in the quality of the submission" I don't know exactly what a continuous section break is, but, I think I know how to turn them into page breaks in word. Bring up the find and replace dialog, and look for ^b. Replace ^b with ^p^m^p. This should replace your section breaks with a blank line, a page break and another line break. 2b. My word file also had a mix of Page Breaks and Section Breaks (at the right places)...will this matter? Yes it will matter, but I think the solution I gave above will fix this. 3. Do I keep the book teasers that are at the end of the book? (i.e. Coming soon from ABC books..., another book by May B Author coming in November..., etc) Are those the "ads" the scanning tips are referring to? You bet. A good rule of thumb is, if it's in the book then the readers want it. Exceptions are made for pictures that will not scan. Even then, we'd like you to put a brief description of the picture where the picture should go. 4. For anyone using ScanToOffice, do you have any suggestions as to what settings you've found to be the best for your scans? I don't have any idea on this one. I've never used scan to office. Thanks for asking such good questions. If the solutions I've proposed don't work, don't hesitate to come back to the list seeking more information, or an alternate solution. Someone will have the right answer. I'm using the these software programs to get a scan together to submit, and I'm wondering a few things (this is my first scan and I want to get it as close to right as I can): 1. Do the pages that have a chapter number also need a page number if the book itself doesn't have a page number? (i.e. should I add the page numbers?) 2a. Does anyone know the difference between a "Section Break (Continuous)" and a "Page Break" in Word? My OCR ended up using Section Break instead of Page Break and I don't know if that is going to make a difference in the quality of the submission 2b. My word file also had a mix of Page Breaks and Section Breaks (at the right places)...will this matter? 3. Do I keep the book teasers that are at the end of the book? (i.e. Coming soon from ABC books..., another book by May B Author coming in November..., etc) Are those the "ads" the scanning tips are referring to? 4. For anyone using ScanToOffice, do you have any suggestions as to what settings you've found to be the best for your scans? 5. Would anyone like to volunteer to proof my first scan and be gentle? I want to use this as a learning experience, so I'm looking for someone who would be willing to work with me through any problems instead of rejecting outright if I really blew it (I don't think I did, but what do I know? LOL) My first scan is a Harlequin Temptation book titled "Too Hot To Sleep" by Stephanie Bond. I haven't read it yet, only scanned it, so I don't know if it's any good, but I'm pretty sure it probably has some racy scenes. I will probably have more questions, but that's it for now.
