Most of the errors were the type that you could figure out what the characters should have been, but here and there the book was so mangled that it was impossible to correct. As for cleaning it up before approving it, I might still be trying to correct the book if I had tried to correct all the scannos in that scan. All I did was delete the 28 or so duplicated pages at the end of the file and check the copyright. I already had the book on reserve from my library, but I thought I wouldn't get it until September or October, so I decided to approve the Fair copy and rescan it when I finally got the book. My thoughts were that it would probably be a bestseller, and some people might be desperate enough to read it in the condition it was in. As I said, I did read it with the impression that I would hit a point early on where I would decide to stop and reject it, but I was able to follow the plot all the way through, so I decided to approve it with an explanation of the problem and a note that I would rescan as soon as the book became available. In short, I left it up to Gustavo as to whether or not he wanted to spend his time releasing the book in that condition knowing that it would be rescanned in several months. In other words, I also put the responsibility of rejecting Peter's book on Gustavo's shoulders. <Grin> Gerald -----Original Message----- From: bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Cindy Sent: Thursday, August 04, 2005 12:56 AM To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: SUBMITTED: Replacement for 4th of July by James Patterson Gerald, I'm curious. Usually you carefully correct when you validate. Why in this case did you accept and upload and leave it fair? (Hmm--that sounds like one of the 4 questions asked at Passover). Did you not enjoy it enough to read it? Shall we take that as sort or a round-about review? (smile) Or is it that it is so popular and had so many people who wanted it that you thought it should get into the colleciton as quickly as possible?
