I did “upgrade”, and then I “downgraded”. I didn’t like losing my ScanSoft OCR
engine, although I don’t use it as much as the FineReader engine.
Also, there were some other things I didn’t like about the latest version. I
don’t recall them right now, but I did write a post about them here at the time.
I have kept the latest version though, firstly because I paid for it, and I
sure ain’t gonna just trash it. But secondly, when I have to get a new
computer, it’ll be with Windows 10, and then I may be forced to use the latest
version whether I want to or not. And I don’t.

Hi Paula,
I use Kurzweil 1000 Version 12, and I get lovely scans. I’ve seen no good
reason to upgrade.
As long as a book is not on the lists you mentioned, you can scan and submit
it.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Returning to volunteering with some questions
Now that I'm retired, I would very much like to return to volunteering for
Bookshare, and Lissi was kind enough to offer to send me some books to scan. I
do have some random questions, so I thought I'd send them to the volunteer list
and see what you guys thought.
I have Kurzweil 1000 version 12, would I end up with more accurate scans if I
were to upgrade to version 14? Of course, I would have to consider the cost of
the upgrade, but I am going to call and find out. I didn't see a price online
anywhere.
Another question: I sometimes get books from the library for my own use, so I
do have access. If I get hold of a book, and it is not on the Bookshare site or
on the Books In Process or awaiting approval list, is it OK to scan and submit
it? Does that also apply to books on the wishlist: that is, I can submit them
if they are not on the site or on those lists? I'm not clear on all of this
because so many books come from publishers now.
Thanks in advance for any answers.
Regards,
Paula Mack
