I don't see why space should be waisted on English titles for books that
aren't in English. If you can't even read the title you don't need to
know what the book is, and like Kellie said there isn't room for two
synopses. Should we also give a Spanish title and synopsis for all
books in English? After all bookshare is in California and there recent
project is obviously to increase bookshare's appeal and usefulness to
Spanish readers.
Is it even okay to translate a title? With the way titles are carefully
chosen, and even changed for different markets, such as Agatha Kristy's
titles often being different in Britain, it might even be a copyright
issue. Now if for internal records bookshare needed an English title as
the NLS seems to use that makes more sense. They seem to use a separate
field called uniform title for that purpose.
Just pointing out a different viewpoint, but whatever bookshare decides
is fine with me. They really should have some way of marking the
language books are in as if that was another category.
