[bksvol-discuss] Re: Removing title of book and author from page breaks?

Man do I wish I could afford Kurzweil. It sounds like it speeds up the
process a lot. Ah well, muddling through, and I try really hard to be as
good as other proofreaders here and definitely read the book through. Will
switch page numbers from the bottom from now on and number if there are
none. Anything else I can do?

breaks?

Well said Monica.

One of the last things I do is read the book through, before that I run a
ranked spelling in Kurzweil to flag any major problems. Then I find the
actual first page of the document and flag it and go to the bottom and find
the last actual page, and see if the pages match up.
Back for another ranked spelling, this time checking each entry (the first
one was just to highlight any major problems).

Finally, the read through. I read the book as a normal patron would, for
enjoyment or learning. I may be lying on my bed, sitting at the computer, or
something else, with one ear tuned to the book's speech output. If something
does show up--and it rarely does--then I fix it.

In other words, I don't see proof reading as a chance to enjoy books,
instead it's kind of like an editor's job, correcting scans and finding out
what the author actually meant in a given circumstance. And, I love it.
