Cindy: Mary's suggestion really does work. Though I have been reading basically the first page of the lists, and as I have some of those "hold fors" that have been out for a while , I cannot testify to the "whole list." However, much, much easier to read by title than by date just as Mary said. Some books are very complex, and can take a long, long time to proofread really meticulously if the proofreader is limited as to the time he or she can devote to volunteering. That's one reason that a hold might be around for a long long time. As for the what seem like bazillions of holds for, it's a project of Bookshare staff that is helping new volunteers learn to proofread. So, each new volunteer gets a book to proofread if he/she expresses an interest in proofreading. However, I totally understand why you don't want to see all of those, and I'm here to make your day! You do not have to see all of those holds for on the first page of results on the check out page. Just above the list of books available for check out are several links labeled things like Author, Title, and Date added. What is not apparent is that if you hit enter, for instance, on the title link, the list of books available for proofreading will then be sorted alphabetically in order of the first word of the title of the book. What this will do is put all of the holds for in one section which you can more easily skip! The default sort order is by date added, with the most recently submitted books at the top of the list. Try it, I think you'll be giddily happy with the results! Happy to see you back volunteering! I had come back last summer and soon after lost my E-mail address. I never found it so got a new one. LOL. So, here are my questions. First of all, it makes sense that you can check out a book for two weeks and then must check it back in or re-check it out, but why can books be held for so long? I found one that has been held for about 14 or 15 months, and I can't currently remember the name, but I think it has to do with the Story of Ireland. Are people reminded that they have holds there? Why can they have so many held for them? A good 25% of the 410 books are holds for, and if you don't really know what you want, searching is an activity that, frankly, nearly made me decide to not ever volunteer here anymore. Why isn't there a hold for list that has only these books and people could go there and find the books they couldn't live without proofreading? Hope y'all don't think these are tacky questions, but they do set me to wondering. I've just downloaded "Longing: Stories of Racial Healing."
