No, this is not a scanning error. I've seen this numerous times - usually
the first three or four words.
But unlike your sample, the caps don't break off in the middle of a word.

Are you telling me that the original print would have a sentence where the first few words are in solid caps and the rest of the sentence is not? Example below.

Hi, I leave the caps the way they are also except I take out the spaces between letters which so often appear so it reads better. Hope that's ok.
