Thanks, Shelly. smile. Is there a link anywhere on Bookshare that lays this out for us? I agree with you personally that this book shouldn't be marked as adult content.

However, as I was used yesterday as the example for posting OT topics when one isn't supposed to, after having being told repeatedly by list members since I joined this list that it was fine to do so, I'm feeling a tad singed around the edges about what is acceptable and isn't.

I want to do this according to Bookshare's stated policy on what defines adult content, and I can't find one. So I guess I'm asking if someone can point me to that policy, or post an email from the staff where this has been answered previously, so I do this correctly. smile.

The volunteer agreement states at http://www.bookshare.org/web/VolunteerAgreement.html

"Volunteer understands that there may be Content on the Web Site that contains language with profanity or obscenity that may not be appropriate for individuals who are under 18 years of age. If under 18, Volunteer and Volunteer's parent or guardian understand that there are certain Volunteer duties that require Volunteer to view content that has not yet been categorized, and that Volunteer may, in the process of processing Content, view Content that would be in the "Adult Content" category once it received its categorization."

That would seem to me to say that not just adult book store material but certain levels of profanity (not the simple "damn" or "hell" but the "mother-f" words etc., which this book contains), may be a reason for rating a book as adult.

The way Bookshare defines it is

If you can buy it in an adult bookstore, or in the restricted section of a library then it is adult.

That is my philosophy, is why I didn't mark that book adult.
