Hi, Sue and Evan.
thanks again,
Lisa
Hi Lisa,
I am a Braille only user, and since the book was published with those
quotation marks that look like apostrophes, and since they would be uniform
throughout, it is my humble opinion that they should be left alone. <smile>

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Question Regarding British Quotes
Good morning, all.
I'm validating a book that has the infamous British style quotation marks.
The submitter did a good job of fixing the quotes so they look Okay visually
and so will probably be legible in Braille... I hope. <smiles>
I'm questioning two different but related issues:
1. Should I convert the apostrophe signifying a beginning and ending quote to the usual double quote we use in the U.S.
2. the British quotation marks and the apostrophe MS Word uses for an
Apostrophe in contractions are visually the same thing as well as being the
same ASCII character, so I'm wondering if I need to do something to
differentiate between the two types of apostrophes. I'm thinking if things
look Okay visually it shouldn't be a big deal, but here again, I'm thinking
of the Braille translation.
I have checked with the submitter and neither of us is sure, though we're thinking leaving things as is would be the best course of action. But we thought it would be a good idea to throw the question out to the knowledgeable folks on list just to be sure.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
Lisa
