[bksvol-discuss] Re: Question About Protecting Chapters

I find it very hard to believe that validators have been filling in all of my page numbers without ever contacting me. When I check my books which I admit I don't do too often, the page numbers as well as the chapter headings have been there. This brings up another issue that I have been wondering about. When I submit a book scanned with Kurzweil, the print page number is the only number shown; however, I am currently reading a book scanned under New York Times and after the page break, there are two numbers, one representing the total number of pages in the book and the other the print page. Personally, I prefer having only one number shown. Jill ----- Original Message ----- From: "E." <thoth93@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Jill I suspect this info is about validating rather than scanning. The stripper will remove page numbers unless they are surrounded by linebreaks. If you as the submitter do not put them in, the validator needs to do so.

Bud, I'm sure that's fine, but actually I don't even put a blank line before the number and it comes out just the way it should. I'm just talking about scanning in Kurzweil; I don't know anything about how it is best with other scanning programs. Jill

Hi Jill,

It's always been hazy to me just where the top of the page is. I guess
when Kurzweil announces a page number that's the top of the page, so if I
down arrow one time that should put the blank line there and then comes
the page number which I put in there if there's none there, then another
blank line before the text starts. Does that sound right?
Thanks.

Bud

Where does the page number come in there? Should it be above chapter
title with a blank line before and after?
Thanks, that's always been hazy to me as to just what is the correct
way.
Thanks.

Bud
