I think I got it; my font seems to have been in italic and I changed it to
regular and think that may do it!

I hope this helps. I use Word, too.
Open the Format file and click on Font. At the bottom you'll pribably see
that superscript has a checkmark. Blacken the whole document and uncheck
superscript and hit return.
