You really do not have to reread the entire book. Just check a couple of instances where the word is spelled in each of the two ways and compare it to Google Books. If what you find matches then it is a really good bet that it was meant to be that way. If it consistently does not match then it is a really good bet that the way you found it in the copy you are proofing is a scanning error and it can be fixed with a find an replace.

Hi Susan,
I sure don't blame you for not wanting to read the entire book again! Could you use the find feature to come up with a phrase either before or after each instance of the word family? (Both spellings, of course.) books.google could then tell you what the author's spelling is? It was just a thought.

Hi Marty,

Excuse my ignorance but I'm not sure of how that would help. I don't really want to read over the complete book again as I've done that once. IS there
something I'm missing?

Susan
