As I posted earlier, I’m willing to scan books. I might decline something that
I clearly find objectionable or don’t like but that hasn’t happened yet. I
wouldn’t do textbooks because I don’t feel qualified to do so. I’ll take books
people are willing to send me on a non-returnable basis unless they’re willing
to pay for shipping both ways. I attempt to do the best scan I am able to do
but I don’t do any pre-proofing.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: Purchasing Books for Scanning
This thread has inspired me to consider adding to the collection.
I once had a book scanned but it was rejected when I submitted it for proofing.
So I am wondering if the current scanning will have to be pre-proofed?
Also wondering if anyone is willing to look at the old books and see if they
can get it ready to be proofed?
Also wondering how you all are scanning?
Lastly i am looking to add a few books a month to the collection does anyone
have the extra capacity to help?
Thank you!

Hi there!
My name is Justin Heard, and I am a blind Bookshare member. First of
all, I want to thank everyone here for all of the work you do. Members
like myself greatly appreciate the time and financial sacrifices you
make to provide us books in an accessible format. It means the world
to me.
I am a new member to this list, and I'm looking to make life easier
for everyone. I have several books I want to read, but most of them
have not been added to the catalog. My requests go back to 2014. I
understand that there are textbooks that need to be scanned as a
priority, but the level of frustration was still there. If only there
was a way I could help. And then I started thinking about it. At
first, I considered scanning books myself. I quickly realized that
wouldn't work, since most of the books I want to read I haven't read
yet, and scanning and proofreading them would spoil the plot for me.
Then, a couple of days ago, I started wondering if I could send in
books to the Bookshare office to be scanned. After discussing it with
one of the wonderful members of the Bookshare support team, I
discovered that it wasn't possible, but I was directed to this list
instead.
So here I am. I am willing to buy a couple of books that I want to
read, and send them to anyone willing to scan them. I'm most
interested in reading Fantasy titles, so those would be the books I
bought. Even ones I'm not interested in myself but that I know are
popular, I am willing to purchase and send to any willing volunteer.
Right now, I have two books in particular on my mind. Wrath by John
Gwynn is the third book in The Faithful and The Fallen Series. As of
now, Bookshare has books 1, 2, and 4, but not 3. I haven't read this
series yet, but I would like to. I am not willing to start until all
of the series has been added. The second is The Hunter's Kind by
Rebecca Levene. It is the sequel to Smiler's Fair, which I haven't
read yet. I'm interested in this series, but again, do not wish to
start something I may not be able to finish. Also, this book is pretty
cheap, so it's quite easy for me to throw it in.
I'm willing to purchase at least one book a month for someone to scan,
as long as there's an interest. if you would like to take this
opportunity, please contact me so we can discuss specifics. I look
forward to contributing to this community, and once again, thank you
for providing countless hours of reading! I've read around 110 books
since July of 2014, and around 100 of them have been because of the
people here. Thank you so much!
