Hi Cindy, I seem to be always confused with ellipses! I think that there is no space when there is punctuation of any kind. A period, whether it’s before or after is a completely different question—sometimes there is one and sometimes there is not. It’s up to the author and what’s in the print book. I hope this helps a little? Marty From: Cindy Rosenthal Sent: Tuesday, May 20, 2014 2:24 AM To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: Punctuation question? I'm confused again, too. so an ellipsis at the end of a sentence -- 3 dots is all there should be? a sentence, 3 dots after last word and start of next sentence with no space and no end-of-sentence punctuation unless --- it's a question mark or exclamation point? If the sentence ends with one of these, should there be a space beore the ellipsis? Cindy On Sun, May 18, 2014 at 10:21 AM, Sandra Ryan <sjryan2@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: You're right, Liz. We aren't to add a period--just leave it if it's there. Hi, I'm getting confused, again! Based on Madeleine's note: "Please DO NOT add an extra dot/period to the end of an ellipsis. If an author has used one, please leave it as is." I'm thinking that an ellipsis at the end of a sentence substitutes for the period, unless it's the author's style to add an period after an ellipsis.
